In this simple tutorial, we will learn how to Batch Convert Images in Adobe Bridge to various formats using the Workflow panel.

This should be a short and straightforward tutorial.

Let’s get started…

Tutorial: Batch Convert Images in Adobe Bridge

Step 1: Open the Workflow Workspace

Open Adobe Bridge and navigate to the Workflow workspace by going to Window > Workspaces > Workflow.

You can also use the Workflow button in the application bar for easier access.

Next, using the Content Panel, go to the directory where the images you want to perform a batch conversion are located.

Step 2: Create and Rename Your New Workflow Preset

As you can see in the screenshot below, Bridge comes with existing presets; we will leave these alone for now. Our goal is to learn how to create our own workflow from scratch!

To continue, click on the + Create New Workflow button to create a new workflow.

Next, right-click on the newly created workflow and rename it to something meaningful for future use.

Now that we have created a brand new workflow, let’s add a task to it in the next step.

Step 3: Add a Task and Change Format

Select the newly created Workflow, then in the Workflow Task Diagram (the middle, large panel), click Add a Task, then Change Format.

This will let Bridge convert files to your chosen output format. More about these formats later…

As you see in the screenshot below, Bridge can do more tasks:

  • Batch Rename
  • Resize to
  • Apply Metadata

We will cover these in another tutorial!

Let’s continue with batch formatting.

Change The Format Option

Step 4: Set Your Batch Convert Options

Navigate to the Workflow Details panel and expand the Saving Options.

Choose:

  • Original File Location or Specific Folder
  • Check the box for Save to subfolder named option to keep all the exported files organized.
  • It is also a good idea to choose Create Unique File Name in the Manage Conflicts option to make sure each file name is unique and avoid overwriting.

Next,  in the Task Details – Change Format section, choose your output format.

As of this writing, Adobe Bridge supports the following file formats:

  • JPEG
  • PNG
  • TIFF
  • DNG

Each format exposes specific settings (compression, color space, bit depth, etc.). You can double-check these options and pick your preferred setting.

Set Your Batch Resize Options

Step 5: Save Preset, Run Workflow

Click Save to preserve your Workflow preset.

Next, select all images in the Content Panel, drag and drop them onto your workflow preset in the Workflow panel, and click Start Workflow.

Follow These 4 Batch Convert Steps

Wait for the process to complete, and Bridge will batch-export the files using the format and saving options you set.

Now, you can go back to your folder where you saved the images and double-check to make sure everything is converted properly.

Final Files

That is all there is to it!

As promised, batch converting images in Adobe Bridge is straightforward and a powerful way to automate repetitive file exports. Give it a try!

Default Presets

Adobe Bridge includes two built-in Workflow presets you can use if you prefer not to create your own.

Custom Workflow

This preset runs a complete sequence for you. It performs the following steps in order:

  1. Batch Rename
  2. Change Format
  3. Resize To
  4. Apply Metadata

Rename, Change Format, and Resize

This preset performs exactly what its name states. It renames your files, converts them to a new format, and resizes them in a single automated pass.

These presets offer a quick alternative when you need fast results without building a custom workflow.
